Great Schools Initiative
Flint School Board Endorsements
For Tuesdays (May 8) Election
• Jennifer Dillard,
1 Year Term:
• Michael Cross,
2 Year Term
• Fred Bashir,
4 Year Term
• Antoinnette Lockett,
4 Year Term
• John Topping,
4 Year Term
WE ENDORSE these candidates because we believe they have the skills, experience and temperament to lead the School Board in constructive ways to improve our City’s schools. Further we believe these candidates share our vision for making Flint Schools the best in the State.
HOW WE CHOSE: We wrote to each of the 22 candidates, asked them to fill out a questionnaire to be eligible for endorsement. Sixteen responded, none of them incumbents. We interviewed 9 candidates at public meetings. The attendees reflected the racial balance of Flint. Candidates were evaluated by attendees. A team of 9 GSI members, using the evaluations collected, made its decisions.
THE GREAT SCHOOLS INITIATIVE is a group of citizens from across Flint that are African American, Hispanic and Caucasian. Since 2004 we have conducted 16 meetings in all parts of the City to which some 400 citizens attended. They told us what they expected and wanted from their schools. The Board of Education embraced our "Vision for Great Schools in Flint"
